Title A Letter to Cloak

Description of suggestion
Dear Cloak,

I'm writing this out of frustration and disappointment regarding the current state of the fishing economy. As someone who has poured countless hours into mastering and shaping this part of the server, it's disheartening to see how it has been handled, especially when compared to other recent server issues.

Fishing has been more than just a game mechanic to me - it's been a core part of the server experience. I've worked tirelessly to become the highest-level fisher at 306 (far surpassing the second highest player) and to establish a thriving economy that balanced fairness and sustainability. Through dedication and an understanding of every aspect of the system, I built something that players could engage with and enjoy.

Unfortunately, the introduction of fisher minions has destroyed everything I worked for. These minions flooded the market with rare fish, rendering manual fishing - and by extension, the entire fishing mechanic - obsolete. What was once a rewarding and balanced system is now pointless. The devaluation of rare fish has left players with no incentive to fish manually, undermining the integrity of the system altogether.

When I initially raised this issue, your response - "fishing minions have no effect on tournaments" - missed the heart of the problem. The concern was never about tournaments; it was about the economy. After pressing the issue, you later acknowledged the need for a fix to stop minions from obtaining platinum and mythic fish, but it's been days without action. In the meantime, the damage has only worsened. The market is so oversaturated with rare fish that even implementing the fix now would be too late to recover what's been lost.

What's most frustrating is the huge contrast in urgency compared to other server issues. When the problem with spawners turning into empty spawners arose, you acted swiftly and provided a rollback. I appreciated the decisive response in that situation - it showed care for the server and its players. But why was that same urgency not applied to the collapse of the fish economy? Why was the hard work of players like myself allowed to go to waste while the problem grew beyond repair?

I've spent a significant amount of time crafting thoughtful, detailed suggestions to fix the fishing system, not just for my benefit but for the health of the server as a whole. Yet my efforts feel dismissed. I know not every suggestion can be implemented, but ignoring the input of the most experienced players in the field - players who want nothing more than to improve the server - is a disservice to the community.

This isn't just about fishing. It's about respecting the time and energy players dedicate to this server and the systems they build within it. I hope this message serves as a wake-up call for the importance of timely action and meaningful communication with the player base. I remain passionate about this server and want to see it thrive, but that requires collaboration and respect for the contributions of those who care deeply about its success.

Sincerely,
Sumothashi

lol its just sad at this point. fishings a total mess, minions ruined the whole thing, and manual fishings a joke now. They fixed spawners in no time but fishing? nah just let it die. Feels like all your work didnt even matter

Yea, exactly how I feel. What's the point of putting in all that time just for it to get wrecked by something so avoidable? They could've fixed this so much sooner, but now it feels too far gone. I don't even know if it's worth trying to rebuild the economy at this point.

I’m mostly just saddened by the fact that this happened in the first place. Like, do you know anything at all about your own game? Anyone who plays on there could’ve told you that this was going to happen.

I think it got put in with good intentions, it just needs a bit more of a tweak to become perfect. It’s just way easier and not really fun to fish, if afk people get to have mystic or higher fish is such a small about of time. I think if it was just the lower fish types, there wouldn’t be a problem to begin with.

Thanks for sharing, we've made two more changes to fishing minions this morning:
  • Fishing minions can no longer catch platinum or mythic fishes
  • Fishing minions will pause custom fish catching if the owner of the minion has been afk for 30+ minutes
