Gamemode
Prison
Description of suggestion
Hi everyone,
I was hoping that before the new prison reset comes out, I could help with some game design choices. Over the years, I've had to slowly and painfully watch the prison community go from a flourishing gamemode to an obsolete one. I realized that there are some map and game design choices that can be made better and wanted to give some pointers for the upcoming reset. Here's a list of some things I think should be focused on.
1. I think the gamemode needs to be more friendly to new players:
Rather than having some reminders in chat, have a room where you first spawn in that tells you how the commands work. It's amazing how many times I've had to teach new players to use simple commands such as /plot auto or even warps!
2. I think that pvp needs to be more incorporated:
Rather than having a small pvp arena in some cramped alleyway, it should be front and center, straight ahead from spawn! Furthermore, there should be more pvp zones! Down all the corridors that lead to rank mines, there is empty space in between the zones. Maybe you can add a small arena for people to fight in secret or 1v1? This connects slightly to the last point, but it's hard for newer players to get into the pvp aspect of the gamemode. While I do agree that getting items should be a grind (as it would be pointless to pvp otherwise), the pvp zone should be walk in/out. Needing to teleport out of pvp as a new player is a death sentence, as it's almost impossible to stand still and tp out in the pvp zone. More so, having the zone walk in/out allows for more player interaction!
I would go even further and say that the area in between the mines should have pvp enabled (not the main F mine, but the ones off to the sides such as O, X, etc). New players lack intensive in this game. Money is pointless without something to spend it on, and if they want to build, there are plenty of other gamemode designed for that, however, exclusive to prison is an intricate gang system, vanilla enchants, and team fights. If you don't spend your money on gear for fighting, what else would you spend it on anyways? Pvp should and must be one of the core focuses of the gamemode.
3. The economy needs to be balanced:
For the last few months, money has been meaningless. There have been countless glitches that have ruined the economy such as the spawner changing glitch, allowing the player to make vindicator spawners (vindicators drop emeralds which sell for lots of money). Even after this has been caught, nothing has been done to fix the economy. This endless stream of money has killed any intensive veteran players have to interact with others through pvp, shops, or auction, because they already have everything they need. It's important to keep the economy in check next reset.
4. Find staff that play on all gamemodes:
Ever since Justinc2522's departure from the server, there have been no staff on the prison server. Because of this, it hasn't recieved the love and care it deserves. While I personally would not like to be a staff member, you should look into staff that would like to play the prison gamemode specifically. Maybe you can motivate people to do so by re-introducing the "Guard" role into prison. The Guard role allowed for lots of fun encounters, making players have to be sneaky with their weapons, and keeping them on their toes. Nothing was more fun than fighting a guard (aside from being one of course). I am sure having a semi-staff role in the prison server would create some connection between the rest of the server and the prison community.
Hopefully you will consider some of these changes, as prison is on its last legs, and I only seek to help it.
Possible side effects of suggestion
The prison gamemode may return to its former glory.
