Figured I'd chime in on this since this has gotten so much attention.
Kingdoms, despite contrary belief, is actually a decently balanced gamemode. I'm not denying that there are a few things that are relatively OP, but for the most part, anyone can succeed if they put the effort in.
Scrolling down this thread, I see a lot of quite well known names, and without calling out anyone specifically, most of the major people +1ing this are people who aren't especially good at the gamemode. Most of you guys basically pvp, build traps, sorta grind for gear, and die for 95% of the time you spend online. Kingdoms takes time to get good at. It has complex and diverse mechanics. It's not some thing you can just load into for the first time and instantly do well at. It's not even some thing you can load into after a month of gameplay and expect to know everything about it.
I'd also like to add my opinion on Assassin's gear and the custom kits we have. There have been a lot of people saying it's overpowered, and to be honest I really feel like that's not true. It's different than normal Minecraft, but when looking at it as a completely separate game mode, it actually works pretty well.
The kits not like normal Minecraft armor, and as long as you guys keep expecting them to work the same way, you'll keep being disappointed.
Damage wise, if anyone actually looked at the numbers, they'd find the kit gear equal in damage protection, but slightly better in durability as far as I've been able to tell. The main problem is that Assassin's kits give the weakness debuff. Not going to lie, watching two people fight each other with weakness and then cry about the kits being overpowered is a bit disappointing. Take some time, figure out how the gear works, run some math, and if you still think it's unbalanced, let me know. Don't try to get it removed on the forums because you can't figure out how it works and expect pvp on kingdoms to be like Kitpvp.
Gems have been severely nerfed, really don't think they need to be removed or nerfed further. They make combat more interesting, and make it so you have to be more careful about who you fight.
Again, if you're looking for carefree default pvp, we have Kitpvp or Survival or duels. Kingdoms isn't the place for that.
As for the big question, Does kingdoms need to be reset?
I personally think most of the people requesting this are looking for a lazy way to get to the top. They aren't willing to put the time and effort into learning the details of the gamemode, and instead are hoping a reset will allow them to get a quick jump on things.
The problem with this is that without major mechanics changes, within a month or two the more skilled players will have put enough distance between themselves and the people wanting a reset that it will all have been for nothing, and we'll be back to square one.
Speaking as one of the most successful kingdoms players, a reset really wouldn't bother me. I built myself up once, and I can do it again because I took the time to learn how the gamemode works.
I think that everyone expecting it to fix the problems that they're having will find themselves in the exact same place a month after the reset.
Don't try and change the server to fit your play style, change your play style to fit the server. The designers did a good job.
Would it bring some old players back?
Maybe, some would probably come. But again, if the root of the issue is you being outplayed, that's not going to change, and chances are they're pretty good at the game too, and will only increase your competition.
Thanks for taking the time to read through this, I hope it's useful to some of you.
