This furnace uses a regular furnace but self feeds the smelted cobble, (stone) back into the furnace to be smelted into smooth stone.
The main reason I made this (MINI) is because when 1 stack of smooth stone is done the furnace input slot will be full and the remaining smooth stone would get backed up into the hopper above. So instead of that I decided to make a single stack furnace setup to accommodate the one slot for storage when the smelting is done. No input for fuel because this furnace does not need a continuous supply of fuel, 1 stack of coal blocks will last long enough.
The components required to make this are; 3 droppers, 2 observers, 2 hoppers, 1 comparator, 1 sticky piston, 1 regular furnace, and any block to place the comparator on.
The bottom 2 droppers are facing upwards to feed items into the top dropper of which faces into the top hopper. The bottom hopper will remove a smelted item from the furnace and deposit it into the bottom dropper. The comparator detects this item and fires the piston which triggers the observer clock to activate the dropper line. The observer clock will activate all 3 droppers making the item go into the top hopper.
Once all the cobble, (64) is smelted the stone will begin to feed into the furnace. Once the stone is finished smelting the smooth stone will feed into the furnace, this is the storage. *Have not tried for cracked stone.
If you want to feed more cobble at once then change the top dropper to face upwards and place a double chest on top of the top hopper and dropper. This will make the smelted smooth stone get backed up into the hopper and chest when it is all done cooking, but if you are okay with that then it will work fine.
To use the mini furnace for single stack smelting place your stack of cobble in and fuel it up. When its done the smooth stone is waiting for you in the furnaces input slot.
This can fit into any build since it only has the furnace to interact with and is 1 block wide. Modular as well since no components in this design will activate any other component of an adjacent module.
This also works with blast furnaces and smokers for the mini or full scale design. Not as beneficial as the cobble to smooth stone setup.
No more will you need to move the stone back into the furnace to be smelted again.
