How to Invite Miners for diner?

Hello - I bought a Farmer miner with Health 1/100 and Food 1/20. Below is written immortal but when I bought them in the manual stood that they must eat meat and golden appels. A food chest is connected and I placed some food (cooked beef) in it but the miner will not eat.
I don't want that this little worker dies so my question is must I feed them and if yes How do I put some food in his belly.

My Minions are still alive with no food and the messages "Immortal" is on when mouseover " Food" and " Health" .
So I guess they are really immortal and for me I don't have to feed my Little children workers (children don't work)
Bought immediately the Miner version too. O dear I only have to collect and sell the stuff - I love it
