Years ago I played Minecraft on an old Toshiba laptop where I would get 4-10 fps on Foxcraft. I made it work with a lot of patience and rubber banding.

When I would start Minecraft the Mojang Load screen, (red background with Mojang in white letters) would be up on my laptop for around 30-40 seconds. An eternity it felt like.
So I would look at the screen for a bit waiting and then I look over at a white wall and to my surprise the word Mojang was in red letters. Being that the wall is white the red from the Mojang background was forced into the blank space of where the white letters were. Crazy how our minds do that.
Take a screen shot of your load screen and give this a try. It is neat and weird.
