Description of suggestion
before reading this thread, i ask that you go and check out this one, as it brings up similar points that are just as valid:
https://www.mcfoxcraft.com/threads/suggestion-kingdoms-neutral-kingdom-balancing-for-better-combat-and-gameplay.20977/
this thread will mostly go over similar topics about neutral kingdoms, but will suggest a better alternative that would make gameplay much more balanced and overall more fun.
so, obviously, necro'ing the thread made by ShadowLynx_ didn't quite take off as expected. so, im making a brand new thread in hopes that this will actually be noticed and taken as genuinely something that needs to be fixed. it's making gameplay in kingdoms feel very much unbalanced in terms of raiding other kingdoms and i believe this isn't the intent of how raiding is meant to work.
i'll cut to the chase. certain players on the gamemode are just overall making the gamemode unfun to play, as their tactic is the following:
-> own a kingdom set to neutral.
-> one player creates another kingdom, uses that kingdom to begin the raid.
-> players from the neutral kingdom are able to aid in killing the champion.
-> neutral kingdom claims land once champion is dead, land is lost forever.
personally, i see this tactic as an exploit. it gives a huge advantage at absolutely no cost and makes the gameplay in kingdoms miserable. i am certain that this isnt the intention of how raiding is meant to work. for one, neutral kingdoms should not be able to aid in attacking the champion. this is due to the fact that neutral kingdoms can't start raids themselves, so why should they be able to help?
secondly, the fact that neutrals can just retreat onto their land while in combat is, to put it simple, stupid. much like how combat works, where you have to wait 30 seconds to retreat into a safe spot (like the warzone and spawn), neutral kingdoms should have to suffer the same. they shouldn't be able to just pick fights and run away to their land to teleport away.
third of all, if we can't set fire to players on their neutral land, why should they be able to build and trap other players on their land and kill them with lava or having members of a non neutral kingdom tickling their feet to death? simple answer. they shouldn't be able to do that. neutral land should be entirely neutral, disallowing damage for everybody on the land so those trapped in neutral land have a chance to get away.
as what's at the very core a factions server, people should have to expect to get raided, giving more incentive to gear up and bolster their defences, venture further into the wild to find a harder spot to find. the fact that people can swap their kingdom to neutral, take a bunch of land and still be able to hop into fights with other people is unfair to those that came to the gamemode to actually play factions.
if neutral kingdoms were to be changed based on the thread linked at the top of this suggestion. players hiding in neutral kingdoms wouldn't be able to help raid other kingdoms and wouldn't be able to retreat onto their land while in combat. this would make combat a lot more fair but it doesnt come without its' flaws. this would still pose the same issues, but in a different way. they would own two kingdoms on alt accounts. one for being neutral and one for raiding. they would raid land with one kingdom, claim with their neutral and thus we're led to the same dilemma, the land wouldn't be able to ever be taken back, which isn't the point of factions.
this is why i believe neutral kingdoms should be removed entirely, and be replaced with a DTR (deaths to raidable) system.
each kingdom would have an amount of DTR. the maximum amount of DTR would be calculated based on the amount of players you have in your kingdom. every time a member of your kingdom is killed, you lose 1 DTR, and when you reach 0 DTR you become raidable. it would refresh slowly and after being raided, there would be a freeze on being able to gain DTR overtime, making your kingdom vulnerable to being raided again. this would force people to be a lot more careful when it comes to dying out in the warzone and wild. claimed land would still work as it does currently, people won't be able to grief it until they defeat your champion, but it would be a lot more of a fair fight since there would be players from the kingdom able to defend their land online while it's being raided, resulting in the gameplay being a lot more fun.
Possible side effects of suggestion
advantages to a DTR system include the following:
-> able to be offline without any real worries of being raided by tactics like the one mentioned above
-> no neutral land to hide on, would give incentive to gear up and bolster defences so people dont just walk onto your land and kill you while you're there
-> would make gameplay a lot more fair, being able to have the chance to raid any kingdom but at the cost of having to find and kill their members to lower their DTR
-> neutral would still "exist" but would not be exploitable as it currently is.
disadvantages to a DTR system include:
-> less raiding overall if people simply don't die.
-> easy to inside kingdoms like this, to just be invited to a kingdom, go to their land, teleport friends there, get killed a bunch of times and have them raid it.
if there are any advantages or disadvantages anyone has to suggest, feel free to do so below. but i would say the positives outweigh the negatives to a system like this, and would achieve what factions is meant to be while being fair and balanced in the raiding department of things.
