Title General Chat Language use.

Description of suggestion
So, the general chat, is for every player, and we are unable to mute it, even if we wanted to, as such, it is a chat that is forced, unless we want to disable our whispers as well.

Make it so that the main used language, is the commonly regonized langauage of the world to use, english. It is a nice common ground for everyone, and it will not exclude players for hour long conversations, that they cant even being to understand.

Possible side effects of suggestion
Pros:
1. Everyone can talk to Everyone as expected of a general chat.
2. It encourages more social interactions as we can all understand
certain people wont feel excluded, simply because they are not from a certain country.
3. People who does not understand the language spoken, will not be forced to have it on their screen, drowning out any other talks, or questions that might actually be written in english. While /ignore is an option, its abit silly to ignore 40% of people, simply because you do not understand them, and they dont want to stop to actually include you.
4. It would be easier for the current and any future mods or helpers who are not dutch, or any other language, to equally moderate everyone, instead of certain people being able to circumvent it, simple by a language barrier.
5. There will no longer be any doubt, if someone is insulting you, or talking about you in another language. What this happens, all you see is your name, and words you do not understand, which often leads to misunderstandings.
6. It makes the general chat of the game more welcoming for everyone, and makes everyone able to be and feel included.

Cons:
There will of course be those few too young to speak english, and they should be allowed to speak the language they can, for the sake of inclusivity without taking over the mejority of the chat.

I get what you mean about wanting everyone to use a common language like English, and it would make some things easier, but its not really fair to ask people to stop using their own language. Its part of what makes the community unique! But i do agree at your point of that you should be able to mute chat, while still seeing whispers, pings, etc, also, about the con, if the majority of the chat will be english, won’t the kids who don’t understand english be excluded…? Sorry, but its just not feasible to expect everyone to speak english…

Isnt fair to ask people to stop using their own language? Noone is stopping them, they can do it in whispers? Most of the time, if asked of they could speak english, I get met with "we're having a personal conversation, shut up"

There are several nationalities on the server, so why not find a common language, for the common channel.

As for the kids, same can be said for any kid, anywhere in the world that isnt english. At that point, it is up to those who does speak the language, t help mitigate the barrier.

For those who are able to speak english, they should. It's a channel for everyone. Not just people from one place, with one language.

People are allowed to speak dutch in general chat. Why wouldn’t they? Its way easier to talk your own language, with people you KNOW also speak it. And imagine this: your talking in german to some of your friends, and someone asks you to speak to their language just so they can listen in? Your not being fair. You should really reread what you said, its not fair to make everyone speak your language because you want them to. Thats not how it works. I didn’t want to say it, but its the truth…
